For those of you who may not know, Nike ID is a Nike product that allows shoppers to customize popular Nike sneakers to their personal taste by selecting colors, choosing materials and other personal details. The idea that you can have a classic Nike made to your specifications is a pretty futuristic luxury beloved by many sneaker fanatics.  Well, at least one Nike Store, in Paris, is taking that idea even further into the future.

French technology company SmartPixels has installed two augmented “video-mapping” kiosks in the Nike Store at Avenue des Champs-Élysées in Paris. Customers in the store can create their own sneaker colorways on a tablet attached to the kiosks using the traditional NikeID online service. Where this gets interesting is when the connected video mapping hardware gets to work. Customers simply place a white version of the model they are working on into the kiosk and instantly see the colors projected on the sneaker, in real time. They can see changes as they select them on the tablet. It’s insane!
